Join Adam Brown for “The Gift of Touch Retreat” in San Miguel Allende, Mexico March 1-4!

This Weekend Workshop is an introduction to Adam’s “Gift of Touch” where we explore the gifts of giving and receiving touch in a Tantric/Taoist mode. That means – among other things – learn and practice how to be more present in your life and, in so doing, develop the ability to be more present for others. We’ll use Touch to anchor these concepts in the body, along with partner exercises, communication practices and movement practices. Personal work will be part of this workshop in order to make it relevant to your actual life.

This March 1-4 Weekend Workshop will be held at  La Joya Azul Guesthouse. This gem of a gay-owned guesthouse is close to everything in San Miguel and has 6 double-occupancy rooms available for our group. We will have total privacy. The Workshop includes breakfast and warm lunch Saturday, Sunday & Monday. A Friday evening buffet-dinner with live music will be hosted by Chris & Bruce, the owners of the guesthouse on the outdoor terrace at a $25 cost.

San Miguel de Allende may just be the most charming small town in Mexico. It’s no pueblito, though, but a colorful, colonial-style city with a vibrant wine scene, markets and artisans galore, and one of the most impressive gastronomic scenes in Mexico.

From the second you drop into downtown, you’ll see the iconic, pink Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel towering above the lower, Spanish-style buildings sprawled out around the square. Walk around the square, people watch, or duck into the nearby artisan market to pick up handmade goodies.

Museums abound in San Miguel, as do shopping offerings in the city; local boutiques here make everything from silk-screen tees to hammered silver jewelry. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, you’ll have your pick from shrimp tempura on a crunchy tostada, slow-cooked barbacoa from a modest street stand, or Sri Lankan-Swiss-Mexican fusion food all within a few blocks from el centro.

Despite being a small town, San Miguel de Allende is filled with things to do, whether you’re in town for a day or a week. It’s a cultural hub, with plenty of art exhibition spaces and live music performances around town in the evenings. And if you can’t fit everything into one trip, you’ll just have to come back; you wouldn’t be the first foreigner to land in San Miguel permanently.

La Joya Azul is a beautiful guesthouse and event space in the colonia of San Rafael. San Rafael is one of San Miguel’s most vibrant neighborhoods and a center of Mexican life. Within 15 – 20 minutes you can walk to many of San Miguel’s places of interest, including, the Parroquia and main jardin, the giant San Juan de Dios market, the artisan market and the rest of the beautiful cobblestone streets of the city. The guesthouse has 6 guestrooms, 4 in the main house with shared seating areas and a 2 bedroom casita with its own kitchen and living space. All bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms.

Three airports serving San Miguel de Allende:

  1. Queretaro – the closet – a one hour drive to SMA. Daily flights between Houston, Dallas, and Mexico City
  2. Léon – an hour and a half drive to SMA. Daily flights from a few Texas cities, Oakland, LA (and likely more that I’m not aware of, it’s a bigger airport than Queretaro
  3. CDMX – two 4.5 hour direct busses to SMA daily, and several 5.5 hour busses daily with a quick stop in Queretaro (very nice coaches – think business class)
