For many years the Brattleboro/West River Valley region has been a hotbed of specialty food innovation and farm-to-table restaurant operations – long before it became fashionable and trendy.
Check out nearby Saxtons Distillery’s two locations (Mercantile and Tasting Room downtown and Distillery and Grand Tasting Room just north of downtown Brattleboro at 155 Chickering Drive), which produces several premium maple infused liqueurs sold under the Sapling Vermont brand, Perc Coffee Liqueur, Snowdrop Gin and Vodka.
Since 2006, Saxtons Distillery has been making world class spirits with fresh, local character. Founder, Christian Stromberg began with traditional recipes brought from Lithuania over 100 years ago and built upon the wisdom and heritage of crafting fine liquors that has been passed down through the Stromberg family for generations. In his lightly-heated, hand-built barn next to the Saxtons River in Cambridgeport, Vermont, Christian first created Sapling Maple Liqueur using a family recipe for Krupnikas, a Lithuanian honey liqueur. Using locally-sourced pure Vermont maple syrup, Christian truly created “Vermont in a bottle.” In 2011, Christian moved the operation to Brattleboro, Vermont.
Sapling Vermont is available in either Brandy, Bourbon or Rye whiskey versions. All Sapling liqueurs are rich in flavor, full bodied, and feature a refined sweetness unique to maple sugar which is not overpowering or cloying. Sapling is brewed using Vermont Grade A maple syrup and refined ultra-pure spirits.
Perc Coffee Liqueur is a big and bold coffee flavor with notes of caramel, baker’s chocolate, and rose. This liqueur is great for traditional coffee cocktails, by itself, or for desserts and marinades. It is made from coffee that is roasted and ground by another Brattleboro-based specialty food purveyor, Mocha Joe’s Coffee.
Snowdrop Gin is a delightful elixir that harmoniously blends the essence of nature with the sophistication of spirits. Crafted with a meticulous selection of botanicals, this gin transforms the ordinary into an extraordinary sipping experience. It’s a symphony of juniper, coriander, citrus peel, and a select bouquet of herbs and spices, all carefully distilled to capture the very essence of a botanical garden in a bottle.
Snowdrop Vodka was born out of love of spirits and the desire to support the resistance efforts in Ukraine. Our founder’s family is from Lithuania, and they feel called to support the people of Ukraine. Therefore, 50% of the profit from each bottle goes to the Blue/Yellow USA organization. This vodka has a smooth, clean and crisp flavor with a sweet aroma and silky finish.
