Winter Yoga 2015 w logo snowflakesJoin us for our annual warm and wonderful Winter Yoga & Wellness Weekend! Its a great way to take a break, r-e-l-a-x and re-connect with yourself over the long President’s / Valentine’s Weekend. Our returning Yogi, Derek Simpson, will be with us for 3 days of yoga, massage, hot-tubbing and much more!

Well start the weekend with a wine & cheese social mixer Friday evening, enjoy a localvore dinner Saturday night and share each other’s company. You’ll return home energized, renewed and relaxed following a long weekend spent detached from the world’s troubles at Frog Meadow’s 63 acres of private paradise!

  • Each morning, yoga session will precede breakfast and will be focused on waking the body with a variety of yoga poses…
  • Additional afternoon yoga sessions are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday (see below)…
  • Sessions will take place unclothed and in a quiet and warm setting….
  • Classes are open and accessible to all men regardless of ability or experience…
  • No prior yoga experience is necessary…
  • You may participate in as many or as few yoga sessions as you like!
  • Blocks, straps, and yoga mats are provided for all classes.

Throughout the weekend, you can also pamper yourself with a 60- or 90-minute massage with Dave, relax in our wood-fired hot tub, take advantage of the amenities at Frog Meadow, including on-site snow shoe & cross-country ski trails, the gym or simply relax by the fire. Note that snowshoe rentals are available for $10/day for Frog Meadow guests.

We don’t care if you are young or old, straight or gay, black or white, sculpted or sagging. We welcome guys of all levels of yoga experience, including beginners. We take pride in our respectful, supportive, and friendly but non-cruisy atmosphere. We are refreshingly free of “attitude”.

Schedule of classes:

  • Saturday 8 am, 90 minutes: Vinyasa flow (gentle to moderate)
  • Saturday 4 pm, 90 minutes: Ashtanga (moderate to vigorous) and Nidra (guided meditation)
  • Sunday 8 am, 90 minutes: Vinyasa flow (gentle to moderate)
  • Sunday 4 pm, 90 minutes: Pranayama (breath work) / Yin yoga (gentle/restorative)
  • Monday 8 am, 90 minutes: Vinyasa flow (gentle to moderate)

Ashtanga Yoga is a more vigorous form of vinyasa, with a faster pace and more challenging postures. This practice will also emphasize longer holdings to extenuate the finer points of the poses and cultivate focus and attention. The more energetic flow is highly conducive to the deep relaxation and meditative state of Yoga Nidra, a guided meditation form of Savasana (deep relaxation), which will conclude the session.

Yin Yoga is a gentle, restorative practice of more passive postures, mainly on the floor and held for longer periods of time. This style aids in the deep relaxation of the body and mind, with emphasis on health and healing. These postures are beneficial to the entire body, particularly the immune system and digestion. The practice aims to cultivate awareness of one’s inner silence and increase the flow of Qi or Prana in the body.

About the Retreat Facilitator

Derek Simpson has practiced yoga for over 15 years, most recently this past September as a guest yogi at Frog Meadow. He was taught in the Ashtanga style, but has also studied other schools of Hatha, such as Forrest, Iyengar, Kundalini, and Bikram. He prefers a vigorous yet healing approach to his practice, incorporating Pranayama and meditation into an energetic Vinyasa. As our guest yogi, Derek recently co-facilitated Frog Meadow’s Summer Men’s Gathering and previously for Frog Meadow’s Fall Yoga/Wellness Weekend in September of 2014 as well as Frog Meadow’s Winter Yoga/Wellness Weekend in February of 2014.
